Subject: Iowa Hemp Alliance: Iowa HF2605 Lawsuit Discussion

This email went out to all licensees and other interested parties. Please feel free to share with your contacts who are interested in learning more. Thanks, everyone! ~Threase

Greetings Iowa Hemp Licensee,

We are reaching out on behalf of the newly created group Iowa Hemp Alliance. This is a collaborative initiative between the Consumable Hemp Advocates and the HempC Coalition, two groups representing organizations that advocate on behalf of Iowa’s consumable hemp industry.

You may have heard we have been working to save Iowa’s hemp industry as a result of the passage of House File 2605 during the 2024 legislative session.

After considering several attorneys, we decided to retain a cannabis industry expert and attorney Matt Kamps with the Huschell Blackwell Law firm out of Chicago to file a federal lawsuit against the state of Iowa regarding the destruction of the hemp industry with the passage of HF2605.

We believe this new law is unconstitutional and will cause irreparable harm for the entire state of Iowa including retailers, distributors, growers, manufacturers, and especially patients/consumers. Additionally, we will file on the merits of interstate commerce and preemption by federal law by making the case that the Iowa status quo is safe and effective, it will cause harm and cost us all economically. We believe we can leverage these opinions at this stage to our benefit.

The success of this requires all licensees to engage. There are currently 10 retailers, distributors and manufacturers who have already pledged $1,000 or more each to the campaign. We need to raise $50,000 by June 21st to file the lawsuit seeking an injunction. We feel very confident about being successful in this quest, but we need your help.

We are writing to invite you to join us for a virtual meeting on Thursday, June 13th at 9 AM to learn more about this engagement and hope you will consider joining us in our efforts.

Agenda: (zoom link emailed and below)
Introduce Alliance Partners, Corey Coleman & Rick Wagaman

Outline Lawsuit Plan/Strategy, Matt Kamps, J.D.

Engagement Appeal, Ashely Powell

If you are not able to participate in the call, but would like additional information, please contact Jessica Meyer at admin@advocacyiowa.com to schedule an appointment for a follow-up call.

We hope you can join us in this engagement to save the industry in Iowa.

We firmly believe if we all work together we have a shot at overturning this disastrous law. We will win together or lose together. We invite you to help us have the best shot at winning! We look forward to you joining us in this fight to keep the industry alive in Iowa.
